Signatories convened to accelerate climate action during a day of collaboration in Paris.

Meaningful climate progress is a collective effort. Climate Pledge signatories and collaborators have demonstrated this since Amazon and Global Optimism co-founded the Pledge in 2019. Signatories and invited guests met on March 10 to exchange ideas and identify new ways to work together during the first-ever Climate Pledge Salon, an intimate, strategic forum to help organizations move from ambition to action.

After a powerful keynote address, attendees participated in workshops and networking sessions. Read on for a look at the day’s programming.

Signatories and invited guests attended the first-ever Climate Pledge Salon at Le Bristol in Paris.

Opening keynote address

Amazon Chief Sustainability Officer Kara Hurst welcomed participants to the Salon, sharing that it was designed for signatories to experience the full value of The Climate Pledge and drive change through in-person collaboration. The Pledge now has more than 640 signatories from 49 countries and 61 industries including manufacturing, energy production, farming, fashion, entertainment, and pharmaceuticals.

They’re innovating and scaling solutions through joint action projects. Kiesha Clayton, The Climate Pledge’s senior manager of recruitment and engagement, provided an overview of the Pledge’s 23 current join action projects that involve more than 110 signatory companies. Clayton encouraged any signatories who aren’t yet participating in joint action projects to learn more about the ongoing initiatives and get in touch if anything piques their interest.

Since no one business can achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2040 alone, Clayton said, “we are working across sectors to aggregate demand, incentivize innovation, and deliver real decarbonization benefits.”

Paolo Verzone, a National Geographic Explorer whose photography is supported by The Global Storytellers Fund, a partnership between The Climate Pledge and National Geographic Society, discussed his project documenting the global scientific effort to develop nuclear fusion—an energy source that replicates the same process powering the sun—that could one day unlock a virtually limitless source of emissions-free energy.

Participants also learned about the Pledge’s Electrifying Drayage Alliance, a joint action project to decarbonize the short-distance movement of freight between ports and warehouses.

Participants gathered in groups and found new ways of working together.

Innovation workshop: supply chain sustainability

Signatories moved from ideas to execution in this workshop. Amazon Director of Worldwide Carbon Chris Roe encouraged attendees to devise solutions to challenges that many signatories currently face in small, collaborative groups. Participants emerged with tangible ideas to bring back to their organizations and begin implementing right away.
Signatories learned about new developments and resources in a session on the value of The Climate Pledge community.

Unlocking the value of The Climate Pledge

In this service-oriented session, facilitators from The Climate Pledge and Global Optimism shared practical tools and resources for signatories to leverage immediately, including collaborative projects to join and Cohort opportunities to consider. They also discussed key international public policy updates, the ways in which the Pledge can help signatories connect directly with policy makers, and a new marketing assets package.
Personalized networking sessions meant signatories identified actionable ideas in addition to connecting with colleagues and peers.

Networking sessions

Participants mingled with peers during one of four personalized networking sessions:

  • Circular economy: Signatories shared implementation insights and compared strategies in this leadership exchange. They used circularity in textiles as an example to discuss how to find sustainable solutions and, ultimately, create a commercially viable value chain.

  • Energy and grids: In this session, energy and infrastructure leaders shared their practical experience and ideas around how to strengthen grid resilience while advancing decarbonization goals.

  • European Union regulations: Signatories discussed Europe’s sustainability regulations and expectations for reporting, accounting, and operational integration. They exchanged perspectives on implementation, governance models, and how to find alignment within organizations.

  • Road freight electrification: Shippers, logistics providers, carriers, and sustainability leaders discussed how to electrify road freight operations. The group looked at the Electrifying Drayage Alliance as well as the Poland EV Freight Corridor, California-Texas I-10 corridor, and the ZET Scale, an electric truck purchasing program.
An evening reception provided one more opportunity to connect.

The day ended with closing remarks from Hurst and Global Optimism Founding Partner Tom Rivett-Carnac, who shared insights about global sustainability and the current public policy environment. An evening reception followed with special guest French Climate Ambassador Benoît Faraco.
